OUR STORY

Laksen Sporting

A STORY OF DANISH CRAFTSMANSHIP

In 1977, Laksen Sporting was founded in Denmark by two passionate fly fishermen and hunters. In the early years, the focus was on handcrafted fly rods and a small collection of functional clothing. Everything was designed in-house, everything was produced under our own roof, and everything was uncompromising in quality – with almost all sales taking place within Denmark.

Between 1979 and 1981, this changed. As the first European manufacturer of hunting and fishing apparel, Laksen Sporting obtained a Gore-Tex licence. This made it possible to produce garments that were both 100% waterproof and breathable. Laksen Sporting began to grow, and an export adventure was set in motion. Hunting clothing with fully waterproof and breathable properties was entirely new at the time, raising the standard for performance apparel for hunting and fishing. Hunters in particular quickly recognised and appreciated these new capabilities.

The hunting range soon outgrew the fly fishing products. By the late 1990s, the focus had therefore shifted towards clothing for refined hunting and shooting. In 1999, the first lightweight tweed products were developed in 100% Scottish wool, featuring 100% waterproof and breathable properties. These products drove significant growth, and it was no longer possible to maintain all production locally in Denmark. Primary manufacturing was therefore moved abroad, predominantly to European workshops.

In 1999, the company’s own sewing workshop closed. Design, construction and product development, however, remained firmly in our own hands and are still carried out here today. The foundation of the company rests on solid textile craftsmanship, united with our passion for hunting and our deep respect for its history…

.…Today, our passion for sporting adventures like shooting, stalking and hunting drives us to develop the best possible clothing and accessories for any kind of sporting situation, in all thinkable weather conditions.

The Laksen Sporting collections consists of more than 400 unique products for hunting and shooting, and we specialize in innovative, yet authentic premium quality clothing. Our trademarks are still lightweight, waterproof and breathable performance products, made of fine Scottish tweed, combined with premium quality continental performance clothing for discerning huntsmen. On top of that, we offer a wide range of premium accessories suited for the world of shooting and hunting, such as watches, shooting glasses, leather products – and even premium liquors!

We only work with specialized shooting and hunting retailers across 18 countries internationally. Common for our retailers is their high degree of service and flexibility. Our retailers have many years of experience, and are more than willing to share their extensive knowledge about the large range of Laksen Sporting products.

To this day, we are still a 100% Danish owned company, with shared ownership between the Mourier family, and the company CEO, Lars Toft Thomsen.
