OUR STORY

Laksen Sporting

A STORY OF DANISH CRAFTSMANSHIP

Laksen Sporting was established in 1977 by two passionate fly fishers and huntsmen. In it’s early days, the company crafted premium quality handmade fly fishing rods, and had a small collection of functional clothing intended for fly fishing and hunting. All products were 100% designed and manufactured at the in-house facilities in Denmark, with emphasis on crafting premium quality products. Products were primarily sold in Denmark.

In 1979-1981 this changed, as Laksen Sporting was granted the first European license to manufacture clothing with waterproof Gore-Tex technology. Being one of the first brands to offer real waterproof, yet breathable garments to hunters and fly fishers in Europe, Laksen Sporting grew quickly, and the export adventure kickstarted. The application of waterproofness and breathability elevated the market standards for performance clothing for hunting and fishing, and especially huntsmen approved these new capabilities.

Our garments for hunting and shooting soon became the majority of our business, and by the end of the 90’s, our focus was solely on hunting and shooting. In 1999, we introduced the first lightweight, waterproof and breathable pure wool tweed products, which lead to extensive growth… A growth that ultimately required outsourcing production facilities to other nations, preferrably and mostly located within Europe.

In 1999/2000, the company closed the last in-house production, outsourcing all production to trusted sub-manufacturers. All designing, construction and product development did though continue to be taken care of in the Danish office, and has been ever since, till this very day. We believe the foundation of our company roots in the deep understanding of textile craftsmanship, in alliance with our passion and understanding for hunting and shooting…

.…Today, our passion for sporting adventures like shooting, stalking and hunting drives us to develop the best possible clothing and accessories for any kind of sporting situation, in all thinkable weather conditions.

The Laksen Sporting collections consists of more than 400 unique products for hunting and shooting, and we specialize in innovative, yet authentic premium quality clothing. Our trademarks are still lightweight, waterproof and breathable performance products, made of fine Scottish tweed, combined with premium quality continental performance clothing for discerning huntsmen. On top of that, we offer a wide range of premium accessories suited for the world of shooting and hunting, such as watches, shooting glasses, leather products – and even premium liquors!

We only work with specialized shooting and hunting retailers across 18 countries internationally. Common for our retailers is their high degree of service and flexibility. Our retailers have many years of experience, and are more than willing to share their extensive knowledge about the large range of Laksen Sporting products.

To this day, we are still a 100% Danish owned company, with shared ownership between the Mourier family, and the company CEO, Lars Toft Thomsen.
